比 + Adjective + 得多
HSK 3- Comparison
Structure (结构 jiégòu)
Meaning (意思 yìsi)
Used for comparative purposes, emphasizing a large difference between two subjects.
Explanation (解释 jiěshì)
This structure is used for comparisons, but emphasizes that the difference is very large. 得多 means "much more" or "far more." It is a stronger way of expressing comparison than a regular 比 sentence.
Note that 得多 is a fixed phrase and always follows the adjective. Do not use other degree adverbs such as 很 or 非常 within this structure.

Common mistakes
- Wrong:这个比那个很贵得多。Correct:这个比那个贵得多。
Since `得多` already means "much more," there is no need to add the adverb `很` (very) before the adjective.
- Wrong:他比我得多高。Correct:他比我高得多。
The phrase `得多` modifies adjectives, so it must come immediately after the adjective.
