Meaning (意思 yìsi)

Expresses a result that remains unchanged regardless of the condition, carrying the meaning "no matter/even if... still...".

Explanation (解释 jiěshì)

The structure 不管…都/也… is used to emphasize that a result or action will not change regardless of any condition mentioned. The clause containing 不管 typically appears with question words such as (who), 什么 (what), 怎么 (how), (how much/many), or affirmative-negative constructions like 去不去 (whether [someone] goes or not).

and are interchangeable, but is more common.

  1. 不管天气怎么样,他都去跑步。
    繁: 不管天氣怎麼樣,他都去跑步。Bùguǎn tiānqì zěnmeyàng, dōu pǎobù.

    No matter what the weather is like, he goes jogging.

Common mistakes

  • Wrong:不管天气怎么样,他去跑步。
    Correct:不管天气怎么样,他都去跑步。

    The second clause of a 不管 sentence must include the adverb 都 or 也 to emphasize an unchanging result.

  • Wrong:不管如果下雨,我也要去。
    Correct:不管下不下雨,我也要去。

    After 不管, there must be a comprehensive condition, typically using interrogative words or the positive-negative construction (A 不 A); 如果 (if) cannot be used.
