Clause,对不对?
Meaning (意思 yìsi)
Used at the end of a sentence to ask for confirmation, equivalent to 'right?', 'isn't it?'.
Explanation (解释 jiěshì)
This is a very common way to ask for confirmation of information, similar to "right?" or "isn't it?" in English. You simply add 对不对 to the end of a declarative sentence to turn it into a question. This structure is more informal and natural compared to using 是吗?.

- 你是越南人,对不对?繁: 你是越南人,對不對?Nǐ shì Yuènánrén, duì bu duì?
You are Vietnamese, aren't you?

Common mistakes
- Wrong:你是学生,对不对吗?Correct:你是学生,对不对?
对不对 is already a question on its own, so there's no need to add 吗 at the end.
- Wrong:你对不对是老师?Correct:你是老师,对不对?
对不对 always stands at the end of a sentence to reconfirm the entire clause before it.
