Explanation (解释 jiěshì)
何必 (hé bì) is an adverb used in rhetorical questions, carrying the meaning of "why the need to...", "what's the point of...". It is used to express that a certain action is unnecessary, unreasonable, or not worth doing. The speaker does not actually seek an answer, but rather wishes to express mild disagreement or gentle dissuasion.

- 我们是好朋友,何必这么客气?繁: 我們是好朋友,何必這麼客氣?Wǒmen shì hǎo péngyou, hébì zhème kèqi?

Common mistakes
- Wrong:他迟到了,何必呢?Correct:他为什么迟到了?
何必 is used to advise against or express that an action is unnecessary; it is not used to ask for actual reasons.
- Wrong:你生气何必呢?Correct:你何必生气呢?
