Meaning (意思 yìsi)

Use 点 (hours) and 分 (minutes) to express specific times of day, for example 'eight ten'.

Explanation (解释 jiěshì)

To tell time, use 点 (diǎn) for 'o'clock' and 分 (fēn) for 'minutes'.

Important notes:

  • 2 o'clock must be said as 两点 (liǎng diǎn), not 二点.
  • 15 minutes can be expressed as 十五分 or 一刻 (yí kè).
  • 30 minutes can be expressed as 三十分 or 半 (bàn).
  • If the number of minutes is less than 10, you need to add 零 (líng) before it; for example, 8:05 is 八点零五分.

    繁: 現在八點十分。Xiànzài bā diǎn shí fēn.
