Explanation (解释 jiěshì)
遍 (biàn) is a verbal measure word (complement of frequency) used to indicate the number of times an action is performed from beginning to end. It emphasizes the completeness of the process.
The key difference from 次 (cì) is that 遍 means a full "round" or complete pass through a process. For example, 看一遍书 means reading an entire book through once. By contrast, 看一次书 simply means "to look at a book once," which might involve flipping through just a few pages. 遍 is commonly used with verbs such as 看, 听, 读, 说, and 写.

Common mistakes
- Wrong:我看了三次这部电影。Correct:我看了三遍这部电影。
If the meaning is to watch the entire film from beginning to end, using `遍` is more accurate. `次` only counts the number of times watching without clarifying whether it was watched completely.
- Wrong:我读一遍课文。Correct:我读了一遍课文。
When expressing a completed action, add `了` after the verb to make the sentence more natural and grammatically correct.
