Common mistakes

  • Wrong:他是最好的之一。
    Correct:他是最好的朋友之一。

    A noun (e.g. `朋友`) must precede `之一` to clarify "one of *what*".

  • Wrong:他是我最好的朋友的之一。
    Correct:他是我最好的朋友之一。

    Do not add 的 before 之一. The noun phrase "我最好的朋友" is already a complete unit.

  • Wrong:这是之一重要原因。
    Correct:这是重要原因之一。

    The phrase `之一` must stand at the end, after the noun or noun phrase it modifies.
