The structure 据…(说/报道) is used to cite a source of information, meaning 'according to…'.
Explanation (解释 jiěshì)
Preposition 据 (jù) is used to introduce the source of information, lending credibility to a statement. The source may be a person, an organization, a news report, etc.
The source noun is typically followed by verbs such as 说 (when the source is a person) or 报道 (when the source is a news outlet or media). This phrase is usually placed at the beginning of the sentence.

- 据天气预报说，明天会下雨。繁: 據天氣預報說，明天會下雨。Jù tiānqì yùbào shuō, míngtiān huì xià yǔ.

Common mistakes
- Wrong:明天会下雨，据天气预报说。Correct:据天气预报说，明天会下雨。
Phrases with '据' must stand at the beginning of a sentence or immediately before the main clause, and cannot be placed at the end of the sentence as in Vietnamese.
- Wrong:他说据，会议改时间了。Correct:据他说，会议改时间了。
The correct structure is '据 + speaker + 说'. Do not separate the subject from the source-of-information phrase.
