听说 is used to introduce information you heard from someone else, similar to "I heard that" in English.

Explanation (解释 jiěshì)

听说 means "I heard that" / "it is said that." Use this structure when relaying something you heard from a person or source, but are not 100% certain about or do not wish to reveal the source.

This is a very common and informal expression. In more formal contexts such as news or written language, 据说 (jùshuō — "according to reports / it is reported that") is typically used instead.
