The structure 如果…的话 is used to express the hypothetical "if…", with 的话 making the sentence softer and more natural.
Explanation (解释 jiěshì)
This is a very common way to express the hypothetical "if...then..." construction. 如果 (if/in case) opens the conditional clause, while 的话 is placed at the end of that clause to soften the sentence, making it sound more natural in spoken language. You can use 如果 on its own, but adding 的话 makes the sentence feel more conversational.
In the result clause (the second part), you can use the adverb 就 to emphasize the "then" relationship, but it can also be omitted without affecting the meaning.

- 如果你有时间的话，我们去看电影。繁: 如果你有時間的話，我們去看電影。Rúguǒ nǐ yǒu shíjiān dehuà, wǒmen qù kàn diànyǐng.

Common mistakes
- Wrong:如果的话你不来，请告诉我。Correct:如果你不来的话，请告诉我。
的话 must stand at the end of a conditional clause (the 'if' part), not immediately after 如果.
