SubjectVerbIndirect Object (person)Direct Object (thing)
Meaning (意思 yìsi)
Some verbs can take two objects: one referring to a person (indirect object) and one referring to a thing (direct object).
Explanation (解释 jiěshì)
In Chinese, some verbs can take two objects. The general rule is that the indirect object (the recipient of the action) comes immediately after the verb, and the direct object (the thing being acted upon) comes last. This structure differs from certain Vietnamese constructions, so you should pay attention to the word order.
Commonly encountered verbs include 给 (to give), 送 (to gift), 教 (to teach), 告诉 (to tell), 问 (to ask)...
