无非 is used to emphasize that something is in fact due to nothing more than some simple reason, and nothing else.
Explanation (解释 jiěshì)
The adverb 无非 is used to identify the essential nature or core reason of a matter, emphasizing "nothing other than..." or "it is merely...". It strips away complexity and cuts straight to the main point. It frequently pairs with 是 or 就是 to reinforce assertion. This structure carries the implication that the truth is quite simple, despite how things may appear on the surface.

Common mistakes

无非 is used to indicate a simple, essential reason. If the matter is inherently complex, using 无非 creates a logical contradiction.
- Wrong:他迟到无非是堵车，而且也起晚了。Correct:他迟到无非是起晚了。
无非 means solely/only confined to a single reason, and should not be used with enumerative structures that add other reasons like 而且.
