Explanation (解释 jiěshì)
Use the structure 只不过…而已 when you want to downplay the importance of something, equivalent to "it's nothing more than…" in English. This expression carries a very colloquial tone, emphasizing that the matter is nothing special or serious.
只不过 (zhǐ bùguò) means "merely" or "it's just that," used to introduce a fact. 而已 (éryǐ) is placed at the end of the sentence to reinforce the sense of "that's all" or "nothing more, nothing less."

只不过 must come before the phrase it modifies (here "more diligent than others"), while 而已 always stands at the end of the sentence.
