怎么 is an interrogative pronoun used to ask about the manner, method, or cause of something.
Explanation (解释 jiěshì)
Use 怎么 to ask two main things:
- Asking about manner (how?): Place
怎么directly before the verb. Example:这个字怎么写？(How do you write this character?). - Asking about reason (why/how come...?): Often expresses surprise or unexpectedness. Example:
你怎么不说话？(How come you're not saying anything?). In this case, it is close in meaning to为什么but carries a stronger emotional tone.
